Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in “Euphoria,” has officially confirmed her involvement as Julia Carpenter, also known as Spider-Woman, in Sony Pictures’ upcoming live-action film “Madame Web.”
In an interview conducted with Variety prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Sweeney excitedly shared her journey to securing the role: “I was incredibly excited and overwhelmed. I immediately headed to the comic store, purchasing every comic that featured my character.”
The extent to which her character will don the Spider-Woman suit remains uncertain. Sweeney pointed out that the movie will deviate from the typical expectations of a superhero film: “It’s going to stand apart from the conventional superhero movie experience.”
When asked about the possibility of her character expanding into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sweeney slyly expressed her optimism. Her response was accompanied by a knowing smile and a shrug when questioned about potential standalone Spider-Woman movies.
Sweeney reportedly dedicated five months to filming “Madame Web” in Boston, a project that features Dakota Johnson in the lead role. This film contributes to Sony’s Marvel universe, joining the ranks of “Venom,” “Morbius,” and the upcoming “Kraven the Hunter.”
The ensemble cast includes Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet, with the film being helmed by director S. J. Clarkson. Fans can anticipate the movie’s release on February 16th, 2024.
