Wine Australia’s vintage report has shown another drop in local production and value for the Riverland region.
For the first time in many years, Riverland wine grape production fell under 400,000 tonnes, with an estimated 391,000 tonnes crushed as part of the 2024 harvest, which was the lowest since 2014.
Prices for red wine grapes paid overall locally fell by 7%, seeing an average of $237 per tonne paid for fruit.
Wine Australia Manager, Market Insights, Peter Bailey said there had been a declining trend in the Australian Winegrape crush over the past few years.
“This is the third vintage in the past five that has been below the 10-year average. As a result, we’ve seen the five-year average decrease by over 100,000 tonnes in the past two years,” Mr Bailey said.
