The findings of an inquiry looking into the adequacy of Australian Winegrape Purchasing has been welcomed by local MP, Tony Pasin.
The matter was referred to a Senate committee late last year, with a hearing held in Renmark taking submissions from many stakeholders.
Mr Pasin said the inland wine regions were hurting as a result of a global oversupply impacting grape prices and it would be comforting to anyone in the industry and region to have their experience acknowledged by a Senate Committee.
“This report vindicates growers and those advocating for them. We can’t trade our way out of this surplus. Government must step in and support the industry through major structural reform”. Said Mr Pasin.
A number of recommendations were listed, including earlier indicative pricing for growers, together with payment terms needing to be within the same financial year as delivery.
