Proactive water infrastructure upgrades is said to be lowing the number of water main leaks according to SA Water data.

2023 had 3,536 water main leaks and breaks reported across SA Water’s 27,000-kilometre network, compared to 3,726 recorded in 2022.

Last years numbers were the lowest since 2017, something SA Water say is due to ongoing upgrades together with good weather conditions.

SA Water’s Senior Manager of Infrastructure Planning and Strategy Daniel Hoefel said they continue to “reduce network failures through ongoing investment, with the placement of hundreds of pressure sensors to address water pressure-related faults before they impact the community.

Upgrades are currently underway in Monash seeing 300 meters being replaced, while earlier this year water main upgrades took place in Waikerie.

Later this year works are also expected to occur in Loxton.
