After being closed to the public for over two years, repair works will soon commence at Loxton’s William street staircase.
The stairs form an important role for pedestrians walking from the town’s main shopping area to the Loxton Riverfront.
Following the 2022/23 flood council encountered some delays in commencing the repair, due to the nature of the work and the limited number of companies who undertake such work.
Complexities with insurance were also said to be a factor.
Loxton Waikerie Mayor, Trevor Norton said “We understand the community’s frustration with the prolonged closure of the staircase, and we’ve been committed to finding a solution. I’m pleased to announce that we now have a clear path forward for the community to regain access.”
Maritime construction company Seacon Australia will carry out the repair works, which will include the installation of screw piles to landing supports, missing handrails, and the reinstatement of the retaining wall.
It’s expected work will commence in June.
