A proposal to rename Renmark’s Goat Island to honour the late Ruby Hunter is now open for public comment.
Ruby, together with partner the late Archie Roach both had strong connections to the Riverland, with Ruby born near Renmark in 1955.
Both Hunter and Roach were members of the stolen generation, and spent decades advocating for change through music.

In recent years a small local group have pushed for the section of Murray River National park to be renamed to honour Hunter’s legacy.
Public comments can be made here through to the 14th of April.
