Fires have now burnt over 80 hectares of the Katarapko Island, with firefighters continuing to work in the area.

Fire crews were first called to the location around 10KM South of Berri Saturday evening, and last night monitored the fires on the island from the mainland.

Around 30 firefighters from the CFS and DEW will continue to strengthen and secure the fire edges throughout today.

For the moment, the CFS say the fires do not currently pose a threat to the community, however, smoke may be visible for some distance.

The CFS have urged locals to stay informed and be aware of the health impacts of smoke on yourself and others.
