While the nation waits for an election date to be set, there’s another candidate confirmed for the local seat.
The SA Nationals this week announced Jonathan Pietzsch will again run for the seat of Barker after contesting for the seat at the 2022 federal election.
Currently holding the Deputy Mayor role at the Coorong District Council, Mr Pietzsch aims to look for ways to address the regional housing crisis and finding pathways to increase the supply of skilled workers in regional areas.
Ongoing dry conditions remain a major concern for the freshly announced candidate, who said “The majority of Barker is suffering on the back of the driest 18 months on record, in the next 12 months it will not just be farming families that have to recover; the allied and supporting industries that supply primary producers will be feeling the pinch.”
There’s now three candidates locked in for the local seat, with major parties such as Labor & the Greens yet to announce local candidates.
